1940版是集大成者，后来班德拉斯版既是借鉴又是续集。先前对泰隆.鲍华并无好感，但他在本片中的表现却异常完美，既演出了唐迭戈“花式小丑”的虚张声势，又演出了佐罗的行侠仗义，黑白摄影还赋予了神秘气质。调情、马上追逐、剑术决斗都堪称经典，只是变身佐罗缺少一个过渡。
